Any Match
Multiple words entered will return results for any matches of any of the words. ie: red car - will return matches for red car, red, and car.
Exact Match
Use double quotation marks (") around search terms and multiple words to search for an exact phrase match. ie: "red car" - Only "red car" matches will be returned (not red or car).
Partial Word
Use the asterisk (*) to create a wildcard at the end of a search term if your word is incomplete. ie: comp* - will return matches for complex, computer, and any word beginning with the letters "comp".

  • Public Health Information

All key provincial public-health-related information can be accessed from https://www.ontario.ca/page/2019-novel-coronavirus. Employers operating in the City of Toronto should also consult the City’s COVID-19-related information, accessible at https://www.toronto.ca/home/covid-19/, which includes information about the City’s declaration of municipal emergency.

  • Employment Standards

The Ministry of Labour has yet to update the Employment Standards Act Policy and Interpretation Manual to account for the recent amendments to Ontario’s declared emergency and infectious disease emergency leaves. However, the consolidated Employment Standards Act, 2000 has now been updated and can be accessed here: https://www.ontario.ca/laws/statute/00e41

  • List of Essential Workplaces

Ontario has recently ordered the mandatory closure of all non-essential workplaces effective as of Tuesday, March 24th at 11:59 p.m.  For the purposes of this order, businesses include any for-profit, non-profit or other entity providing the goods and services described herein. This does not preclude the provision of work and services by entities not on this list either online, by telephone or by mail/delivery. Teleworking and online commerce are permitted at all times for all businesses. A list of essential workplaces can be accessed here: https://www.ontario.ca/page/list-essential-workplaces. Please note that this list may be subject to change. We understand that the province will be making a 1-800 number available on Wednesday for any inquiries.

  • Labour Information

No updated COVID-19-related labour relations information is available on the Ministry of Labour’s website at this time.The Ontario Labour Relations Board has made adjustments to some of its processes in response to COVID-19. Information about these changes can be accessed here: http://www.olrb.gov.on.ca/english/homepage.htm

  • Occupational Health and Safety

At this time, the Ontario Ministry of Labour has yet to post any guidance specifically related to COVID-19, other than a link to the public health resources included above.

  • Workplace Safety and Insurance Board

The WSIB has posted COVID-19-related information on this page: https://www.wsib.ca/en/novel-coronavirus-covid-19-update. This page also includes information about modifications to the WSIB’s operations due to COVID-19.  

The WSIB has also made available to the public an Adjudicative Approach Document summarizing how the WSIB will be making decisions about COVID-19 claims.   • Human Rights

The Ontario Human Rights Commission’s policy statement regarding the COVID-19 pandemic can be accessed here: http://www.ohrc.on.ca/en/news_centre/ohrc-policy-statement-covid-19-pandemic.

The Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario has indicated that it will postpone in-person hearings and reschedule to a later date. Where feasible, alternative hearing options such as written and telephone hearings will be considered to minimize disruption to hearings across the organization.   • Privacy Issues

The Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario has issued a brief statement relating to the impact of COVID-19, which includes tips for working from home. The statement can be accessed here: https://www.ipc.on.ca/newsrelease/ipc-closure-during-covid-19-outbreak/

  • Provincial Orders

Orders in Council can be accessed here: https://www.ontario.ca/search/orders-in-council. Please note that this page may take a few days to report the most recent orders.

Orders that have been issued under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act can be found by visiting the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act online and selecting the “Regulations Under This Act” tab. Please review these regulations for orders relating to work deployment measures in long-term care homes, deployment and staffing by health service providers, and the recent closures of schools, child care centres and other venues.

  • Courts and Limitation Periods

Employment matters being litigated in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice may be subject to suspensions or procedural modifications. Limitation periods have also been suspended A list of updated notices to the profession and a copy of the Order suspending limitation periods may be accessed here: https://www.ontariocourts.ca/scj/.
